On the 2/04/25 we got geed news that our application for small community garden project was successful to obtain some funding. The community gardening project is led by Acocks Greener CIC, aims at engaging isolated individuals in local food growing for a community kitchen at the Baptist Church. The project involves creating a shared community plot where registered allotment holders can enjoy time outdoors, participate, learn from other gardeners, and take home harvests or donate it to the community kitchen. The plot already includes a mini orchard and vegetable area, thanks to the previous plot-holder but it requires a lot of effort to make it into a successful growing area. The immediate work needed on the site includes clearing paths and removing overgrown vegetation, pruning trees. The project obtained funding from the National Garden Scheme Community Garden Grant to cover costs such as gardening tools, compost bins, bench, seeds, and social tea and biscuits (all good work needs tea and biscuits). The project aims to improve the health and wellbeing of participants, provide fresh vegetables and fruits to the community kitchen, and create a sense of belonging and engagement.
